Secret Prey
John Sandford
Strange way to work through a series, going backward, but the one I read references the one before and I'm interested so I go back one. Once upon a time my mother devoured this whole series and I tried to get on board with her, I just didn't like it at the time. Now, I'm hooked, one right after another. In this one, Lucas Davenport is investigating the shooting of a bank president on a hunting trip, weeks before there will be a merger of their bank with another. There are many suspects and as Lucas discovers, many other suspicious acts of violence in the past that are linked with this particular bank. I have to admit this author really creates an awesome villain, I am always so impressed with how downright evil he makes them, and how good Lucas is at sniffing them out. He referenced the book before this one so here I go back a book again! I really wanted to start at Certain Prey and make my way forward but alas, he's just too good a storyteller.
