Second in the Maggie O'Dell series, still so exciting. Her nemesis, Albert Stuckey is now out of jail and as the book progresses likely killing anyone who associates with her. Maggie is still in a ragged emotional state, separated from her husband, moving into a new home. When the police show up at a neighbors her professional curiosity leads her to the scene. What she finds and what the cops miss, gets her no friends with the detective assigned the case, but no victim is found amongst the blood evidence. Her boss with the FBI gets wind of her presence at the scene and soon she has a tail in the form of R.J. Tully, a new profiler. Tully is very new out in the field, but I loved him as the author fleshed out his character in this book and the next. The series is graphic but as I get older, gritty becomes my favorite genre, especially with crime dramas.
